The capital of Abkhazia is good to visit not only for a comfortable vacation, but also for visiting places of historical importance. The first place in this list is occupied by the park of the Moscow Military District, which is located near the sea and where picturesque buildings are located, some of them are residential buildings. The park is very large, in different parts of it there are sanatoriums, pavilions, parking lots and abandoned buildings. Young people often organize photo sessions, because at any time of the year thanks to nature, a real riot of colors reigns. You will find descriptions of many plants. In the park you will also see mosaic panels from the Soviet period, the facade of the buildings will remind you of the Stalin period.
The Samson Chanba National Drama Theater of Abkhazia is located in the center, near the coast, where it is difficult to pass. The two-story building is white in color, in addition to the theater, there is the San Remo Hotel, several cafes, the State Russian Drama Theater named after Fazil Iskander, and others. In the theater, plays are staged in the Abkhazian language with simultaneous translation (in Russian). Directors stage plays by Abkhazian and foreign playwrights, including Fazil Iskander, William Shakespeare, Pedro Calderon de la Barca.
Next are the ruins of the ancient era, which used to belong to the fortress of Dioscuria. Greek traders made the coast a colony, and the ruins are what remains of that colony. Scientists believe that there was once a city in this place that sank. Visitors to the city want to make lasting impressions. If the ruins are not absorbed by the water, they do not investigate the place. It can be said that this is not the only trace of Greeks in the country.
The sea port of Sukhumi is also located close to other attractions, and you won't waste much time walking. People stroll all year round, the port is especially beautiful in the evening lanterns. Fishermen often sit at the end of the road, there is a cafe and a landing. The port was built in the 18th century and is used for shipping today.
