In South Ossetia, the Easter holiday is cherished, especially by children, who eagerly anticipate a week filled with enjoyable events. One such event occurs on Wednesday evening when they gather for the "bonfire" tradition. Children light fires and leap over them, believing that even the smallest bonfire can dispel negative energy and bring good fortune. While children are the primary participants, some adults also join in, albeit to a lesser extent.

In the 1990s, a new tradition emerged involving lighting bonfires with old car tires. Communities engaged in friendly competition to showcase the largest bonfire, often collecting tires throughout the winter months. Some reminisce with amusement that, at times, they even removed tires from cars for this purpose. However, it became apparent that this tradition was harmful, and it was subsequently abandoned. Nowadays, only firewood and other wood waste are used for the bonfires.

On the eve of Easter, Saturday evening brings another cherished tradition known as "Berka," akin to Halloween. Children adorn their faces with paint and visit various households to collect colored eggs and sweets. They entertain with songs and dances, but like Halloween, they may play tricks if they feel slighted. Consequently, they gather uncooked or rotten eggs to offer as jests to less hospitable hosts. The songs they sing carry a playful curse: "May all the chickens perish if one withholds eggs." Ultimately, the collected eggs and sweets are shared equally among the children.
